Toshiba to Reaffirm Commitment to Singapore and the Asia Pacific Region at the Singapore-Japan Business Forum

Singapore – Toshiba Asia Pacific today announced that it will be sponsoring and participating in the Singapore-Japan Business Forum to be held on 15 July 2016, at the Grand Hyatt hotel in Singapore. Themed “Partnership for Sustainable Growth in Asia and Beyond”, Toshiba is taking the opportunity to reaffirm its commitment to Singapore and the Asia Pacific region.

The Singapore-Japan Business Forum, which commemorates the 50th anniversary of bilateral relations between Singapore and Japan, will bring together senior officials and industry leaders from Singapore, Japan and the region.

Corporate Representative-Asia for Toshiba Corporation and Managing Director for Toshiba Asia Pacific Mr. Tatsuo Doko, says, “Toshiba is delighted and honored to be part of the Singapore-Japan Business Forum. Recognizing Singapore as a strategic hub for conducting business, Toshiba established its Asia Pacific regional headquarters here in 1995. We have contributed to Singapore’s infrastructure through projects with SMRT and Singapore Post, and are exploring ways in which we can contribute more. Going forward, Singapore will continue to serve as a springboard for Toshiba to further enhance its business presence in the Asia Pacific region.”

Toshiba was awarded an order to refurbish the existing drive systems of SMRT’s 66 C151 series train sets in July 2013. This is the first deployment of Toshiba’s high efficiency Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSM) outside Japan. Following the successful test run of two C151 trains, Toshiba will begin refurbishing the remaining 64 C151 trains. In 2015, Toshiba also supplied an integrated postal automation system to Singapore Post, comprising 16 various machines that can rapidly sort letters, mail packages and flats.

Mr. Doko will be a panelist for the plenary session “Internationalisation through New Technology & Services” at the Forum, where he will share on Toshiba’s commitment to its three business pillars in Energy, Infrastructure and Storage and how Asia presents many opportunities. He will also talk about how the company has collaborated with countries in the region for energy and infrastructure projects, the globalization of its products such as PMSMs and NAND Flash memories, and emerging technologies that contribute to a hydrogen economy.
